Lincoln guide

Late-night food near the Lincoln campus that isn't a chain, with closing times taken from each place's own ordering page

This page is shorter than you want it to be, and that is the useful part. If you are near the Brayford campus and it is past midnight, the independent options are two takeaways. Everything else within walking distance is either a chain or shut, and a lot of what the listings sites tell you is open simply is not.

Every closing time below was read from the venue’s own ordering page on 12 September 2026, not from Google, Uber Eats or a directory aggregator. That distinction turned out to matter: one well-reviewed place near the High Street is listed elsewhere as open until midnight and in fact stops at half past eight.

Still serving after midnight

Both are takeaways rather than places to sit, both deliver, and both hold a food hygiene rating of 5.

  • Pizza Launch, Restaurant43c Carholme Road, which is about 310 metres from the Brayford campus and the closest independent food of any kind to it. Pizza, kebabs, burgers and fried chicken. Its own ordering page gives Monday to Thursday 2pm to midnight, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday 3pm to 1am, for both collection and delivery. Food hygiene rating 5, last inspected 15 April 2026. If you only remember one entry from this page, it is this one: nothing else independent is both this close and this late.
  • AFC American Fried Chicken, Restaurant376 High Street, south of the level crossing, roughly a fifteen-minute walk from campus. Fried chicken, pizzas, burgers and kebabs. Its own ordering page gives 2.30pm to 12.30am Sunday through Thursday, and 2.30pm to 1am on Friday and Saturday. Food hygiene rating 5, last inspected 24 March 2026. It is the later of the two on weeknights by half an hour, at the cost of the walk.

Late for a café, if you want somewhere to sit

  • Coffee Aroma, Café24 Guildhall Street, about 630 metres from campus. Not late-night in the takeaway sense, but our directory record has it open until 11pm on Saturdays, against 6pm to 7pm the rest of the week — which makes it the one independent café in the centre where you can still be sitting down at half past ten on a Saturday. Worth knowing if what you actually want is a table and not a kebab.

Checked, and not actually late

Listed here because being told a place is open and finding it shut is worse than not knowing about it.

  • King Shawarma, Restaurant368 High Street, a few doors from AFC, and a genuinely good independent — it is one of the venues on our Turkish and Middle Eastern guide. But its own ordering page gives 12pm to 8.30pm, every day of the week, with no late opening at all. Several directory and review sites currently show it running to 10pm or midnight. We are going with what the business itself publishes, so do not plan a late walk down the High Street around it.

Why this list is so short

Of the 46 published food and drink venues we hold for Lincoln, only two carried any opening-hours data at all before this page was written, so every time above had to be sourced by hand. That is a gap in our own records as much as a fact about the city. The wider fact still stands though: past 1am there is nothing independent serving near the Brayford campus, and a student who wants food after that is choosing between a chain and their own kitchen.

Where to go next

Best independent restaurants in Lincoln names the owner behind each place from the Companies House register, and where students live gives walking times from each area of the city to the Brayford campus, which is the other half of this question.

How this was checked

Hours were read on 12 September 2026 from the ordering site each business runs under its own name and phone number, which is the surface the operator controls and updates. Aggregator and review listings were used only to find candidates, never as the source for a time. Where the two disagreed, the venue’s own page won, and the King Shawarma entry above records one such disagreement.

Distances are straight-line measurements from the University of Lincoln’s Brayford Pool campus, calculated from the coordinates on our own directory records, so treat them as approximate walking guidance rather than route distances.

Chains are excluded by definition — that is the question this page answers — which is why the fast-food names clustered around the city centre and the retail parks are absent even though several of them open later than anything here.

One name is deliberately missing. Two different businesses trade in Lincoln under the Topkapi name, on different websites and with different phone numbers, and at least one of them appears to open very late. Until we can say with confidence which entity is which and which one holds the late licence, listing it would be guessing, so it is left out rather than recorded either way. The same rule applies to every venue we could not source hours for directly: an absence here means we could not verify it, not that it closes early.
