Dog-friendly pubs and cafés in Lincoln, and which part of each one your dog can actually go in

Most lists of dog-friendly places in Lincoln give you a yes or a no. The yes often has a catch. The Victoria by the castle allows dogs in the garden only, and the Queen in the West in the bar only, yet both appear elsewhere as simply “dog friendly”. So this page sorts each pub and café by where your dog can go, and says whose words that rests on.

We have not visited or phoned any of them for this page. Every policy comes from something written down: the venue’s own website, the brewery or pub company that runs it, or, weakest, CAMRA’s pub records. Each entry says which. Policies change with licensees, so if it matters, ring ahead. The cafés are the thin part. Only two Lincoln cafés state a dog policy on their own site, and the page does not pad that out.

Only part of the pub: garden or bar

These four say dogs are welcome, but name a limit. If you want to eat in a dining room with the dog at your feet, these are the ones to check first.

  • The Victoria, Pub, owned by Batemans brewery6 Union Road, LN1 3BJ, by the castle’s west gate. Garden only. Batemans’ page for the pub reads “Dog friendly (Garden Only)”.   • The Lion & Snake, Pub, run by Marston's79 Bailgate, uphill. Bar area, with water bowls and treats. The pub’s Marston’s-run website says dogs are welcome in the bar area and that it always has water bowls and treats. A pub company pub, not an independent.   • The Magna Carta, Pub, run by Marston'sExchequer Gate, between the castle and the cathedral. Bar area. Its Marston’s-run website says it will “welcome your four legged friends in the bar area”. Welcome, in the venue's own words, with no limit stated

The strongest evidence on the page: the venue says it on its own website. None of these names a part of the building that is off limits. Dogs are not banned anywhere, as far as they say.

  • The Joiners Arms, Pub, free house4 Victoria Street, LN1 1HU, a few minutes from the Brayford. Inside, with water and treats. Its facilities page says “Dogs are always welcome here with fresh water & tasty treats”, and its about page mentions a treat from the bar. The freeholder is an individual, not a pub company.   • The Birdcage, Pub, free house54 Baggholme Road, LN2 5BQ, in the east end. On leads. Its about page welcomes new people “and friendly dogs on leads”, and its home page calls it “very dog friendly”, with a beer garden. Source: own website, read 23 September 2026.
  • The Adam & Eve Tavern, Pub25 Lindum Road, LN2 1NT, below the cathedral. Label only. Its website lists “Dog Friendly” among its features and says nothing more, so we cannot tell you about rooms or bowls. The freehold belongs to a small Lincoln pub company, The Indigo Pub Company Limited. Source: own website, read 23 September 2026.
  • Stokes Lawn Coffee & Kitchen, CaféThe Lawn, Union Road, LN1 3BU, uphill. Welcome, no limit stated. The café’s page says “Bring the whole crew — dogs, kids”. Open Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 4pm, Sunday 9am to 4pm. The only sit-down café in Lincoln we found that says so on its own site in a full sentence.   • Coffee Depot, Café43A Carholme Road, LN1 1RN, on the student side of the Brayford. Badge only. Its website shows a “Dog Friendly” badge and nothing more, so ask about space for a big dog. Source: own website, read 23 September 2026.

Dog friendly according to the brewery that runs them

The brewery’s page for each pub says “dog friendly” and gives no detail. These are brewery-owned pubs, not free houses and not pub company pubs.

  • The Golden Eagle, Pub, owned by Castle Rock21 High Street, LN5 8BD, near Sincil Bank. Castle Rock’s page lists it as dog friendly. CAMRA’s record (updated 1 September 2026) adds that “the cosy front lounge has a log burner”, in the same sentence. Covered, heated garden.   • The Treaty of Commerce, Pub, owned by Batemans brewery173 High Street, LN5 7AF, near the level crossing. Batemans lists it as “Dog friendly”. It is busy on match days, which is worth knowing with a nervous dog. Source: operator website, read 23 September 2026.

Only CAMRA's records say so

A weaker kind of evidence. CAMRA volunteers record a dog-friendly flag when they survey a pub, but it is their record, not the pub’s own words, and none of these pubs states a policy on a website we could read. The date is when CAMRA last updated each record.

  • The Wig & Mitre, Pub, operated by Punch Pubs & Co30–32 Steep Hill. CAMRA’s record says “dogs are welcome downstairs”, the only record here that names a floor. The pub’s own site says nothing about dogs. CAMRA, updated 26 April 2026.
  • The Organ Grinder, Pub, run by Blue Monkey Brewery4 Eastgate, by the cathedral. CAMRA’s record says “Dogs are welcome”. Over-18s only. CAMRA, updated 11 September 2026.
  • The Tiny Tavern, Micropub, free house107 High Street, LN5 7PY. Flagged dog friendly. It is two small cottages with a garden at the back, so space inside is tight. CAMRA, updated 14 September 2026.
  • The Strugglers Inn, Pub, freehold owned by Heineken (Star Pubs)83 Westgate. Flagged dog friendly. Its old website address now points somewhere unrelated, so there is no pub site to check it against. CAMRA, updated 13 September 2026.
  • The Morning Star, Pub, owned by Stonegate11 Greetwell Gate, uphill. Flagged dog friendly. CAMRA, updated 9 July 2026.

Not on the list, and why

  • The Cardinal’s Hat, 268 High Street. The Enjoy Lincoln listing says guide dogs only, and CAMRA has no dog-friendly flag. Treat it as no dogs indoors.
  • Seven Districts and Coffee Aroma. Visit Lincoln’s coffee post (September 2024) says Seven Districts does a “puppuccino”, and Visit Lincoln lists Coffee Aroma as dog friendly. Neither café says so on its own website, so they are not in the main list.
  • Couldn’t confirm: the Jolly Brewer, the Duke William, Hobbsons, Madame Waffle, Café St Paul’s, Dough LoCo, Bunty’s, Caffè Portico, Rising Café, the Mindful Mug and the Old Bakery. We found no written policy from the venue or its operator. Some may well take dogs. Reviews say so for a few, but reviews are not a policy.
  • Left out as possibly closed: Widow Cullen’s Well on Steep Hill and the Bailgate Deli, until we can confirm they are trading. Pimento Tearooms closed in 2018, though it still appears on older dog-friendly lists.

How this was checked

Every policy on this page was read on 23 September 2026 from a written source, and each entry names which kind: the venue’s own website, the website of the brewery or pub company that runs it, or CAMRA’s pub records. Where two sources disagree, the more specific and more recent one is used, and the entry says so. Nobody from Highstreett visited or phoned these venues for this page. Facebook and Instagram pages would not load without a login, so policies posted only there are missed. Reviews were read but never counted as a policy.

Seventeen venues are named. Three have a page in our directory (Stokes Lawn, Coffee Depot and the Wig & Mitre), and none of the seventeen yet carries our verified independent badge. Ownership labels come from CAMRA’s freehold records, as on our pubs guide. Pub company pubs are included and labelled, because a dog owner needs the policy either way. Nothing was scored, so the entries are grouped, not numbered.
