Vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Lincoln: the two still open, and the five that have closed
Lincoln has two fully vegetarian places to eat: Bailgate Deli, a plant-based café up by the cathedral, and Slow Rise, a vegetarian pizza restaurant on St Martin’s Lane. Five others have closed since 2019, and some directory sites still list them as open. Beyond those two, Olé Olé marks vegan dishes across its tapas menu, and the chains carry most of the full vegan menus in the city.
Fully vegetarian
- Bailgate Deli, Café4 Gordon Road, LN1 3AJ, just off Bailgate. It describes itself as a plant-based café and deli serving breakfast and lunch; older descriptions call it vegan and vegetarian. It publishes no menu, so ask if you need a dish to be fully vegan. Food hygiene rating 5, inspected 12 February 2026.
- Slow Rise, Restaurant8–12 St Martin’s Lane, LN2 1HY. A Neapolitan-style vegetarian pizza restaurant and takeaway: its owners chose to keep meat off the menu, and its Instagram says there are vegan versions too. Food hygiene rating 5, inspected 14 October 2025.
A local restaurant that marks its vegan dishes
- Olé Olé Tapas Bar, RestaurantUnion Road, LN1 3BU, by the castle’s west gate. Its tapas menu marks 11 dishes vegan and 6 more that can be made vegan, from patatas bravas to a vegetable paella, and says it has been family-run since 2013. Food hygiene rating 5, inspected 22 April 2026.
Chains with full vegan menus
These are chains, so they have no page in our directory and aren’t linked, but between them they carry the fullest vegan menus in Lincoln, as their own menus showed on 10 September 2026:
- Cosy Club, in the Corn Exchange on Sincil Street: a separate vegan menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Part of Loungers.
- Zizzi, on Brayford Wharf North: a vegan menu of pastas and pizzas.
- Pho, on Cornhill Pavement: vegan options marked right through the menu.
- Mowgli Street Food, on the High Street: 17 dishes marked vegetarian and vegan.
- Slug & Lettuce, on the High Street: vegan dishes marked across its menus. Part of Stonegate.
Closed: names you may still see listed
Pimento Tea Rooms on Steep Hill, a vegetarian tea room that opened in 1990, has closed, and its building is now Gigi’s Bar & Bistro, which isn’t vegetarian. Cafe Shanti on Clasketgate, which went fully vegan in 2019, has closed too, and so have Happy Culture Café on Garmston Street, Good’s Plant Based Bakery on the High Street and Naturawell on Carholme Road. Some directory sites still list Pimento and Cafe Shanti as open.
