Asian supermarkets in Lincoln

Lincoln has three specialist Asian supermarkets, in a compact cluster around St Mark Street, the lower High Street and Portland Street: Asia Supermarket, the broad all-rounder near campus; Morning Sun, for East and Southeast Asian groceries; and Golden Leaf, for Chinese and East Asian ingredients. Two more shops are worth knowing: Super Lincs, a wider international supermarket, and Rayan Stores, a halal butcher and grocer with Indian spices. We found no Thai, Japanese or Filipino grocer in the city. If you would rather eat out, we list Lincoln’s Korean and Japanese restaurants too.

Asian and international supermarkets

  • Asia Supermarket, ShopUnit 3, The Junxion, St Mark Street. A broad South Asian and world-food range near the university: vegetables, spices, sauces, noodles and bulk rice, with a halal butcher counter. Its own site says its halal meat and poultry are cut to order every day; it names no certifier. Its online shop is useful for checking product categories before visiting.
  • Morning Sun Supermarket, Shop341A High Street. Its own Facebook page describes East and Southeast Asian groceries, fresh and frozen, with bakery, snacks and drinks: the stop for noodles, sauces and frozen food. Check first if the trip depends on one specific fresh or frozen item.
  • Golden Leaf Oriental Supermarket, Shop24 Portland Street. A Chinese and East Asian supermarket for sauces, spices, fresh vegetables, specialist ingredients and cooking equipment.
  • Super Lincs, Shop116 High Street. A larger international supermarket whose own site identifies Asian and European groceries, fresh produce, an in-house bakery and a delicatessen counter.
  • Rayan Stores, Shop115a High Street. A halal butcher and grocer whose own Facebook page lists Indian spices, naan bread and African groceries alongside halal meat. The one to try for South Asian cooking rather than East Asian.

Which shop should you try first?

Start with Asia Supermarket for the widest convenient range near campus. Use Morning Sun for East and Southeast Asian groceries, Golden Leaf for Chinese and East Asian ingredients, Rayan Stores for Indian spices and halal meat, and Super Lincs when the list is international rather than specifically Asian.
