Got Into Lincoln? What to Know Before You Arrive
Results came out on Thursday, so if Lincoln is where you're headed, you've got about five weeks until Welcome Week starts on Monday 21 September. This post is the practical half of arriving: the dates, the Clearing situation, and the admin worth doing before the interesting part starts. The dates
Welcome Week starts Monday 21 September 2026 for most undergraduate courses. The exception is the healthcare programmes, nursing and paramedic science and so on, which tend to start earlier, and for those the only source worth trusting is your own offer letter. Course start dates are one of those things where a blog confidently giving you the wrong one is worse than no blog at all, so check yours.
If you're still in Clearing, or still deciding between offers, Clearing stays open until 19 October, which is a lot more runway than results day makes it feel like you have. Nobody is going to take the spot while you sleep on it for a night.
If you came through Clearing, chase accommodation now
The university's Accommodation Guarantee only covered people who applied by 1 August, and if you're a Clearing entrant you've applied after that by definition, so there is no room being quietly held for you. That sounds worse than it is. You'll get somewhere, but you need to contact accommodation services yourself this week rather than waiting for an email that isn't coming.
Worth knowing for morale: roughly one in seven Lincoln students arrive through Clearing every year. It's a completely normal way in, you're just on a slightly different admin clock to everyone who firmed in January, and the clock says move now.
The one thing to know about the city before you get here
Lincoln is two places, and the one you'll see first isn't the good one. The waterfront where the campus sits is flat, modern, and lined with the same chains you've eaten at in every other city. That's where your first week will happen and that's fine. The only other thing to say here is that the hill in question is called Steep Hill and the name is a job description, not a quirk. Bring shoes with grip. Cobbles in the rain are their own induction week.
Boring admin, week one, no exceptions
Three things, all of which get considerably worse the longer you leave them:
Register with a GP as soon as you have an address. Doing it while already ill, in October, with half the campus in the same queue, is the standard fresher experience and it's entirely avoidable.
Sort your bank account early, whether that's opening a student account or switching one over, because processing crawls right when every other new student in the country applies during the same fortnight.
Sign up with the Students' Union during freshers week itself rather than "at some point", since most of the good society deals and events are front-loaded into the first two weeks and don't come back around.
