Where it’s genuinely useful
If you actually run a business in Greater Lincolnshire, this is a real, free public service: fully funded advisers, a grants and support finder, and programmes aimed at start-ups, exporters and businesses trying to grow. That’s a different and genuinely valuable job, and nothing below is a knock on it.
What we found when we checked
The one part of the site shaped like a directory is its “Local Business and Supplier Directory”, which covers “Greater Lincolnshire” — Lincolnshire plus the North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire council areas, a considerably larger area than Lincoln itself. It runs to around 69 pages of results in total. Its own framing makes the purpose clear: alongside “Appear in the directory” sits “Post an opportunity”, described as a way to share “a contract, tender, collaboration, or call for suppliers”. This is a procurement tool, not a place to browse for dinner.
We filtered it directly to the Food & Drink sector and the LN1 postcode. It returned four results: LincSushi, a sushi restaurant that describes itself in its own listing text as “an independent Japanese fusion restaurant”; Sinner Buns Bakery; a Caribbean takeaway; and CompliChef, a compliance and operations software platform sold to hospitality and food businesses — not itself a place to eat. Registration is free and self-service, which is a reasonable design for a supplier directory, but it also means a listing’s own claim to be “independent” is exactly that: a claim, with nothing behind it to check.
What Highstreett does differently
We check who owns a business against Companies House and the PSC register before a verified-independent badge is applied; a business doesn’t get to write its own ownership claim into its listing unchecked. Chains are labelled rather than hidden, and anything we haven’t checked yet is marked unverified.
The honest bit
